Mareike Harms
Mareike started as a volunteer in the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), where she was part of a local emergency disaster response team. As photography is an important hobby for her, she soon became part of the THW media team in Northern Germany. In 2017, Mareike got the opportunity to be part of the EU MODEX exercises as a photographer in the media team. Since then, she has participated in many EU MODEX exercises, taken many photos and met many inspiring people from all over Europe. In the end, the EU MODEX family made her start a training to become part of an international disaster response team of THW.
What does EU MODEX mean to me?
EU MODEX does not only stand for high-quality exercises, it also stands for a unique experience, teamwork and friendship. And finally, it stands for the European idea. For me, the exercises are always exciting, because no two exercises are the same. It is a great opportunity to meet interesting and inspiring people and I feel very privileged to be part of the EU MODEX family.
What are my wishes for the future of EU MODEX?
I hope that EU MODEX exercises will be possible soon again and that there will be many more exercises across Europe in the future.
