Anna Baetens
Head of International Relations, Directorate-General for Civil Protection, Belgian Ministry of Home Affairs
Anna joined Belgian Civil Protection in 2001, starting in the Operations Department and later establishing the Centre of Expertise. Now she is in charge of International Relations at the Directorate-General for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
She takes care of developing the Belgian capacities (civil protection teams and experts, also host nation support) according to international standards, with a particular focus on people’s growth. As a member of B-FAST (Belgian First Aid and Support Team) and duty officer of the DG for Civil Protection, she organizes the deployment of these assets following requests for international assistance.
Anna is a member of the EU Civil Protection Committee and the National Training Coordinator for Belgium since 2002. She has supported the development of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism since its very beginning, both at institutional and operational levels. She has been involved in different functions in numerous international projects, training and exercises.
Since 2011, Anna and her team have been responsible for organizing six Module Field and five Module Table-top Exercises as consortium lead or partner, and provided participants to 25 Modex.
