Sean Hogan
National Director for Fire and Emergency Management, Ireland
Seán Hogan has a background in civil engineering, international aid and fire services.
In the 1990’s he represented Ireland in EU Civil Protection affairs and, learning from his peers in many European countries, he was centrally involved in developing Ireland’s Emergency Management System, embedding a systemic risk management approach.
In 2009 he was appointed as Ireland’s first National Director for Fire and Emergency Management and was tasked by Government with leading and coordinating the national response to a series of severe weather and flooding emergencies.
In 2013, he led the Irish Presidency team which, working successfully with the EU Commission, steered the passing of EU Civil Protection legislation.
